You may know them under their stage name 'Sisters of the Moon' or as 'Lady Madeline and Nancy' or as the 'singing twins' from the world renowned group 'Blackmore's Night' named after world famous lead guitarist, Ritchie Blackmore, from Deep Purple and Singer/Songwriter, Candice Night.
Prior to their introduction into 'Blackmore's Night' the twins had already spent most of their lives singing and performing having started at the age of three! Around the age of 9, the twins began to harmonize and write their own songs! Their first exposure to the recording world began when they sang in a school talent show and were recommended to their long time producer and friend, Chuck Nice, at the age of 16. They ended their high school careers being voted the most likely to make the top 40 in their high school yearbook.
Their strong singing talent and song writing ability inspired them to begin a project of their own under the group name 'It’s Just Me'. The group was comprised of the twins themselves, Chuck and various studio musicians from North Carolina, New York City and Long Island.
Being born into a family that stressed education, the twins attended college at the University of Stony Brook and got involved with the University Chamber Choir and Jazz Ensemble in addition to working with campus musicians in the production of an original Rock Opera. They also continued to record and perform at various Long Island clubs, as their passion was to live up to the prophecy of their former classmates.
Once the twins graduated with honors from College, they went to work on their CD that now features 13 original songs featuring funk bass player Mark White, from the multi-platinum band the Spin Doctors. Their sound is a combination of various styles including R&B, Pop, Rock as well as elements of show tunes and classical music, having been exposed to this music as young girls. To promote the album, their music was showcased and sold under local artists at Sam Goody’s. They also performed select songs on college radio for the LIMusicthon.
The twins toured with Blackmore's Night for the five years. This allowed them to showcase their singing talent as ‘vocal instrumentalists’. Mr. Blackmore and Ms. Night often utilized their orchestral style of singing encouraging them to sing higher and higher to help build the songs. They also were featured with the lead singer, on one of Mr. Blackmore's biggest hits ‘Child In Time’ which crescendoes into higher and higher octaves. They also opened for the band several times with the impressive opera duet, 'Dome Epais' from the opera ‘Lakme’. The twins are very grateful for the opportunities this group afforded them allowing them to work with top musicians and perform in front of thousands of people.
Madeline and Nancy are currently working on new original material as well as various projects as they plan to continue sharing their life’s experiences through music with the world!
Love and Music Always,
Maddy and Nancy
